Barley Southern

Robust genetics for high-performance yields

The six-row winter barley variety «Pivdennyi» is the product of extensive breeding collaboration between the Selection and Genetics Institute (Ukraine) and the North Caucasus Federal Agricultural Research Center. Designed specifically for intensive farming, this variety has established itself as a staple for producers looking to mitigate environmental risks while maintaining high production standards.

Advanced phytosanitary resilience

The primary strength of the «Pivdennyi» variety lies in its ability to withstand significant pathogen pressure, which is crucial for protecting harvest potential. The variety is highly resistant to key fungal diseases:

• Helminthosporiosis: Strong genetic protection helps minimize grain loss by maintaining the integrity of the leaf and head.
• Powdery mildew: Effective resistance at various growth stages, reducing the need for intensive fungicide programs.

These traits make «Pivdennyi» a predictable and cost-effective choice for farms aiming to optimize chemical inputs while ensuring high-quality, marketable grain. The six-row spike structure provides excellent grain density and a high thousand-kernel weight, even under fluctuating climatic conditions.

Market position and reputation

In the Ukrainian agricultural market, this variety is recognized for its consistency and reliability. While it does not require the ultra-precision management of some modern hybrids, it responds exceptionally well to quality soil fertility and standard cultivation practices. Producers favor «Pivdennyi» for its balance of endurance and yield stability across various soil types, making it a reliable workhorse for professional agricultural operations.
