Description
Spring barley variety Odessky 22 is a mid-early grain-forage variety with a vegetative period ranging from 70 to 92 days, maturing 3-5 days earlier than the standard variety Vicomte. The plant is short, of medium height, with a semi-erect bush and a loose head covered with a weak waxy coating. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 45 to 54 grams; the grain is very large with an unpubescent abdominal furrow. External characteristics include weak anthocyanin pigmentation of the flag leaf auricles and awn tips, as well as the absence or very weak pigmentation of the nerves of the outer floral lemma. The sterile headlet is drooping with a rounded tip, and the pubescence of the main awn of the grain is long. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, specifically in Stavropol Krai, where the average yield reaches 27 c/ha, corresponding to the level of the average standard. In Stavropol Krai, the variety shows a yield increase of 2 c/ha compared to the Vicomte variety, reaching an average yield of 31 c/ha. The maximum recorded yield was 64.4 c/ha in the Rostov region. Odessky 22 is resistant to lodging and has drought resistance at the level of standard varieties Pryazovsky 9 and Vicomte. The variety is characterized by susceptibility to brown and dwarf rusts, as well as strong susceptibility to powdery mildew. Protein content in the grain varies from 10.8% to 13.7%, making it suitable for grain-forage use. The pedigree of the variety includes hybrids Odessky 82, Donetsk 6, and Zernogradsky 86, ensuring its adaptation to the climatic conditions of the region and stable agronomic indicators.
