Winter barley KWS Jessie is a medium-maturing dual-purpose variety with high yield potential and excellent brewing qualities. The vegetation period ranges from 74 to 89 days, and plant height varies between 50-60 cm. Plants exhibit very high tillering intensity and medium-density pyramidal ears with high grain numbers. The 1000-grain weight ranges from 31 to 53 grams, ensuring high grain size and excellent malt extract characteristics. KWS Jessie shows high resistance to lodging and shattering, as well as good drought tolerance, rated at 7-8 points. The variety is resistant to a range of diseases, including helminthosporiosis, powdery mildew, various rusts, and spot diseases, contributing to stable yields under diverse climatic conditions. The recommended seeding rate is 3.2 to 5 million seeds per hectare, with optimal planting depth of 3-5 cm. The variety is adapted for cultivation in various regions, including the Forest Steppe, Polissia, Steppe, and the West Siberian region. Special attention is given to the brewing qualities of KWS Jessie: the variety possesses high diastatic power and free nitrogen (FAN) content, low beta-glucan levels, and very low viscosity, ensuring high final fermentation rates and excellent quality of pale malts. Thanks to these characteristics, KWS Jessie has been awarded a quality mark and recognized as a winner of the Berlin Brewing Program 2021. For seed storage, it is recommended to maintain a temperature range of +7-10°C and humidity not exceeding 10%, which preserves seed viability and quality.
