Kws Harris

KWS Harris is a medium-maturing spring barley variety intended for grain and fodder use. It is characterized by high productive tillering potential and a high number of grains per ear, ensuring high yield and stability. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Northwestern and Central regions of Russia, including the Vologda, Leningrad, and Moscow regions. Average yields are 34.4 c/ha in the Northwestern region and 37.6 c/ha in the Central region, with a potential yield of up to 120 c/ha. The vegetation period is 78-90 days, and plant height varies from 54 to 66 cm.

The grain of KWS Harris has high quality: protein content ranges from 9.4-12.6%, thousand-grain weight is 45-51 g, and grain size exceeds 2.5 mm. The grain's natural quality and germination energy are also high, contributing to good germination and seed quality. The optimal seeding depth is 3-5 cm, and the seeding rate is 4-5 million seeds per hectare.

The variety has moderate resistance to stem rust, but is susceptible to stripe rust and root rots. Due to its high ecological plasticity, KWS Harris is adapted to a wide range of natural-climatic conditions in the Central and Northwestern regions of Russia. It received high ratings in the state commission for testing and protection of breeding achievements and is a leader in variety trials in Belarus and Poland since its registration in 2019.
