Hermes

The winter barley variety "Hermes" is a super elite two-row barley with high yield and resistance to adverse conditions. It was developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Study. This variety is characterized by high tillering, even stem and grain alignment, as well as resistance to lodging, powdery mildew, and helminthosporium. The ear is of medium length, non-shattering, straw-yellow in color with long serrated awns, and the grain is thin-ribbed, rhombic-shaped, and straw-yellow in color. Under drought conditions, protein content reaches 10.2–11.0%, and extractability is 78–80%. Hermes demonstrates stable and high yield, exceeding standard indicators by 14%. It exhibits high plasticity to sowing dates and adapts well to various agroclimatic conditions. For optimal grain quality, seeds should be sown within the optimal period from September 15 to the end of October, considering local conditions. Under intensive cultivation, the variety positively responds to the application of micro- and macroelements, as well as growth stimulators, which contribute to improved grain structure and increased thousand-grain weight. The variety is highly resistant to diseases, including powdery mildew, helminthosporium, powdery rust, downy mildew, and leaf spot. For additional plant protection, fungicides are recommended. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, "Hermes" is suitable for cultivation in various regions, ensuring stable and high yields when agronomic requirements are met.
