Description Explorer
The Explorer barley variety is a medium-maturing and medium-height brewing barley with a vegetation period of 69 to 80 days. Plants have cylindrical, moderately dense ears with long, serrated awns and very large kernels, with a 1000-kernel weight reaching 45–46 grams. The plant is of intermediate type, with medium height, strong anthocyanin pigmentation of the flag leaf sheaths, and waxy coating on leaves. The variety has been included in the State Register of Selection Achievements since 2012 and is recommended for cultivation in the Central Chernozem region, as well as in Lipetsk and Oryol Oblasts, Polесье, Steppes, and Forest-Steppe zones. Explorer is characterized by high yield, up to 70 centners per hectare (7 tons per hectare), and resistance to various stress factors. It is resistant to lodging, drought, powdery mildew, and leaf spot diseases, and moderately resistant to stone and dusty rust. However, the variety is susceptible to helminthosporiosis. High protein content in the grain (12.2–13.8%) makes it especially valuable for brewing industry. Due to its agronomic characteristics and resistance to adverse conditions, the Explorer variety is a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic zones. It is suitable for spring sowing and provides stable yields when agronomic requirements are met. Using this variety in brewing allows obtaining high-quality raw material with large kernels and optimal protein content.
