Eastern

Barley variety Eastern is a cereal crop recommended for cultivation in the steppe zone of Ukraine. Plants reach a height of 60-70 cm and have a two-row ear type with high alignment — 96%. The variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging, as well as to major barley diseases such as false powdery mildew and rust, rated at 8 points on the resistance scale. The yield potential of this variety is 5.0-6.0 t/ha, with protein content in grain reaching 13.2%, and 1000-grain weight ranging from 47.7 to 49.2 grams. The variety was registered in 2011 and developed by the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAN).

Eastern barley belongs to winter varieties, widely cultivated across Ukraine due to its high ecological plasticity and resistance to adverse climatic conditions, including cold and heat. The vegetation period of the crop is approximately 90-120 days, allowing effective use of the variety in various agroclimatic zones. Seeds undergo preparation according to European standards, including UV and ozone treatment, ensuring high-quality planting material and promoting stable germination.

This barley variety has multiple uses: grain is used as raw material for the brewing industry and animal feed production. Thanks to its high yield and disease resistance, Eastern ensures stable income for farmers under various growing conditions. The development and adoption of such varieties contribute to increasing the total barley harvest in Ukraine, which is especially important given the growing demand for this crop.
