Winter-ripening variety. Selected in the USA as a spontaneous mutant of the Richard Delicious variety. It was widely distributed in the past but is almost absent in new plantings.
Fruits are above-average and large in size, very similar to those of the Red Delicious variety. They can be distinguished by more intense color and shape: the lower part of Royal Red Delicious fruits is broader, with more pronounced ribbing. The flesh differs from other varieties in this group by its special aroma and distinct dessert-like flavor.
Other morphological and biological characteristics are identical to those of the Red Delicious variety.
