Apple Lakomka

A Reliable Choice for Sustainable Orchards

The 'Lakomka' apple variety, developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, is a proven cultivar that combines resilience with consistent productivity. As a vigorous tree, it is designed for growers who prioritize long-term performance and high winter hardiness, ensuring survival even in unpredictable temperature fluctuations.

Operational and Cultivation Insights

• Winter Resilience: The tree’s strong winter hardiness makes it a reliable asset for regions prone to harsh frost, reducing the risk of significant wood damage during the dormant season.
• Management of Vigorous Growth: Given its strong growth habit, professional pruning is essential. Regular crown management is not only a matter of space but a critical operation to ensure uniform light distribution, which directly translates to fruit quality and skin coloration.
• Harvest Utility: The fruit features an round-cylindrical shape and light-cream flesh. It is recognized for its stable storage potential, making it an excellent candidate for both fresh market sales and storage-intensive supply chains.

From an agronomical perspective, 'Lakomka' serves as a stable foundation for the orchard. The variety’s origin in Ukraine ensures it is well-adapted to local climatic patterns. For modern farming practices, this means fewer interventions regarding protective measures against cold stress. We recommend focusing on structural pruning to maintain accessibility and ensure the energy of the tree is effectively directed toward producing high-quality crops.
