The 'Aromat Uktusa' apple variety is an autumn variety developed at the Sverdlovsk Breeding Station of Horticulture by crossing the 'Isetskoe' and 'Iulskoe Chernenko' varieties. The tree is of medium height with a wide pyramidal or rounded crown, reaching a height of about 3 meters. Leaves are large, wide, green, with short tips, while branches are gray-brown and smooth. Shoots are straight, dark brown, almost black. The variety is early-yielding, beginning to bear fruit in the fourth year and differs in annual fruiting with high yield.
The fruits of the 'Aromat Uktusa' apple have an average weight of about 100-102 grams, a regular round-conical shape with a smooth, dry, and shiny skin of light yellow color with a dark raspberry blush. The flesh is white with pink veins, loose, coarse-grained, and low in juice, possessing a good sweet-sour taste and a strong aroma. The content of dry substances is about 13.9%, sugars — 10.6%, and vitamin C — 22 mg%. The fruits are of universal purpose, suitable for fresh consumption and making compotes. The storage life of the apples is about two weeks.
The variety is characterized by good winter hardiness and resistance to scab, however, the fruits are quite tender. To maintain the health of the tree, formative pruning and the use of branch stayers are recommended. The ripening period falls in late summer and autumn, while the consumer period lasts from September to December. Despite the fact that on the Far East apples can be larger (up to 150-250 grams), they store for a shorter time and have a somewhat bland taste, but retain a characteristic strong aroma.
