The temperature optimum for vegetation is in the range of +20°C to +35°C. The plant is capable of withstanding significant diurnal temperature fluctuations, which are characteristic of desert and savanna ecosystems.

Maintenance includes periodic sanitary cleaning of the trunk from dead leaf bases, which reduces the risk of fire and limits nesting places for pests.

Fruiting of the doum palm begins at the age of 10 to 15 years, which necessitates a long-term investment. The tree is capable of producing multiple harvests per year under favorable weather conditions.

The fruits, known as "vegetable ivory," are prized for their hard and durable endosperm. From a single mature tree, significant volumes of harvest can be gathered annually, which are used in both the food and handicraft industries.

Economic use covers almost every part of the plant: leaves are used for producing wicker furniture and baskets, while fibers from the petioles are used for making strong ropes and cordage.

The fruits are edible; their sweet pulp is consumed fresh or dried and is also processed into flour, making the crop an essential element of food security in arid regions.

The palm wood, which is dense and resistant to rot, is used in the construction of local dwellings and for the production of agricultural tools.

There are few specific epidemic diseases capable of destroying doum palm plantations, though high humidity can lead to fungal infections of the root collar and trunk rot.

A serious threat is posed by weevils and other types of palm pests, the larvae of which penetrate the trunk, disrupting sap flow and causing wood degradation.

For pest control in industrial scales, regular inspection and removal of affected fragments are practiced, as deep penetration of insects makes the use of chemical insecticides difficult.

Competition from weeds is only relevant during the seedling stage; mature trees, thanks to their powerful root systems and thick bark, successfully suppress surrounding competitors.

The anthropogenic factor remains the primary threat: excessive leaf harvesting and damage to the apical bud during sap collection can lead to the death of the tree, so proper agricultural technique requires strict adherence to pruning standards.

The fruit harvest is conducted manually as they ripen, which is determined by the color of the skin changing from green to brownish-red. Full maturity is reached when the fruit achieves its characteristic hardness.

Harvesting leaves for handicraft production is carried out before they fully dry out to maintain the elasticity of the fibers necessary for weaving high-quality products.

For timber harvesting, only old specimens that have reached the end of their life cycle are selected, allowing for the rational use of natural resources without depleting the population.
