Planting of Pancratium is primarily done using bulbs, as propagation by seed is a long and tedious process. The best time for outdoor planting is spring, once the threat of late frosts has completely passed and the soil has warmed sufficiently.

The planting depth depends on the bulb size, usually ranging from 10 to 15 centimeters. It is crucial to maintain a spacing of at least 25–30 centimeters between bulbs to ensure adequate air circulation and space for root development.
For container-grown plants, timing is more flexible, provided the indoor environment offers stable temperatures and plenty of light. Proper drainage is the most vital aspect to prevent bulb rotting in pots.
Before planting, bulbs should be treated with appropriate fungicides to protect them from soil-borne pathogens. This simple step significantly increases the survival rate and promotes faster establishment.
If propagating by seed, sowing should take place in late winter in a light, well-draining substrate. Seeds require high humidity and consistent bottom heat (22–25 degrees Celsius) to germinate successfully.
Pancratium, a member of the Amaryllidaceae family, thrives in sunny locations. It requires full sun exposure to store enough energy for vigorous growth and the production of its characteristic fragrant flowers.
The ideal soil is sandy or loamy, characterized by excellent drainage and neutral pH. Heavy, clay-based soils are unsuitable as they trap moisture, which is the primary cause of bulb decay in this genus.
Watering should be balanced: frequent and regular during the active growing season, but significantly reduced after flowering. In winter, during the dormant phase, watering should be minimal to keep the bulb from drying out completely.
Fertilization with a balanced NPK fertilizer is recommended, with a slight preference for potassium and phosphorus to enhance flower quality. Over-fertilization with nitrogen should be avoided to prevent excessive foliage growth.
The plant is not frost-hardy and requires winter protection. In cooler climates, bulbs must be lifted and stored in a cool, dry place (10–15 degrees Celsius) throughout the winter months.
Basal rot, often caused by Fusarium fungi, is the most common disease in Pancratium. It is usually triggered by waterlogged conditions and poor ventilation around the bulb area.
Spider mites are the most frequent pests, especially in environments with low air humidity. Regular monitoring and the application of acaricides can effectively manage these infestations.
Onion maggots can damage the bulbs directly. Preventive measures include incorporating granular insecticides into the soil during planting and avoiding areas with previous pest issues.
Viral infections can cause leaf mottling and growth stunting. Since there is no cure, infected plants must be removed and destroyed immediately to prevent the spread of the disease by aphids or other vectors.

Storage should take place in a cool, dark, and dry environment. Bulbs can be placed in mesh bags or crates with dry peat or vermiculite to keep them protected from extreme humidity fluctuations.
Routine checks during the dormant period allow for the early detection of any rot. Removing any spoiled bulbs promptly prevents the loss of the entire storage batch.
Before the next planting cycle, bulbs can be inspected for viability. Healthy, firm bulbs are then ready to be replanted, provided the soil conditions meet the required temperature for the start of growth.
