Chalcid wasps
These pests primarily target legumes, cereal crops, and various fruit trees. The main damage is caused by the larvae, which develop inside the seeds, consuming the endosperm and embryo, resulting in significant yield losses and a reduction in the viability of the harvested agricultural products.
The life cycle of Chalcididae includes a complete metamorphosis consisting of the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females use their ovipositors to deposit eggs into plant tissues or directly into developing seeds. The larvae consume the inner parts of the host plant throughout their development and eventually pupate within the damaged seed.
The damage is characterized by small, circular exit holes on the surface of the seeds, created by emerging adults. Infested seeds lose their weight and germination capacity, making the grain unsuitable for storage, processing, or future sowing, which leads to economic consequences for producers.

Key practices include selecting healthy, certified seeds, maintaining proper crop rotation, and harvesting crops timely before the adult emergence period.
