The family Chrysididae, commonly known as cuckoo wasps, belongs to the order Hymenoptera. It is critical to distinguish that cuckoo wasps do not feed on plant tissues. They do not damage leaves, stems, or fruits directly. The biological cycle of these insects is highly specialized. A female cuckoo wasp searches for the nests of a host insect. Upon locating a suitable nest, she deposits an egg inside. Once hatched, the cuckoo wasp larva consumes the host's stored pollen or nectar, as well as the host's own larvae, effectively terminating the development of the intended beneficiary.
The agricultural harm caused by these insects is indirect but significant.
