The Conidae family (cone snails) belongs to the class Gastropoda, order Neogastropoda. Although most species are known as predatory marine organisms, some representatives living in coastal areas or estuaries can impact ecosystems utilized in aquaculture or the cultivation of salt-tolerant plant crops.

These organisms primarily damage plants cultivated in mariculture or hydroponic systems using seawater. In agricultural settings, they pose a threat to young seedlings of algae and other halophytic crops by consuming their delicate tissues, which leads to stunted growth and the eventual loss of the crop.
The biology of cone snails is characterized by a specialized toxic apparatus used for hunting, but their impact on flora is mainly related to mechanical tissue damage. The life cycle includes a planktonic larval stage (veliger), which settles on a substrate after metamorphosis, making population control in cultivation tanks particularly challenging.
Damage patterns appear as irregular, ragged edges on leaves and stems, as well as complete defoliation of young shoots. High densities of these mollusks per square meter can cause up to 30% crop loss in coastal farming zones, as well as indirect damage caused by water pollution from their metabolic waste products.
Protection measures include physical barriers, such as installing fine-mesh netting to prevent mollusks from entering cultivation systems. Additionally, regular cleaning of substrates and monitoring water salinity are effective, as many Conidae species are highly sensitive to sudden changes in environmental parameters, allowing for population management without the use of harsh chemicals.
