Crops and damage. As polyphagous pests, Enidae snails feed on a diverse range of plant species. They pose a particular threat to leafy vegetables, succulent seedlings, and ornamental plants. The typical damage includes irregular holes in leaves and stems, often leading to the complete skeletonization of plant tissues if the population density of the snails remains unchecked over an extended period.

Biology and life cycle. The life cycle of Enidae is heavily dependent on moisture. These snails are primarily nocturnal, emerging from their shelters in the soil or under debris during the night or overcast, wet conditions. They reproduce by laying eggs in moist, protected areas. Favorable weather conditions allow them to complete their life cycle rapidly, leading to overlapping generations and persistent infestation.

Pest significance. The damage caused by these snails is not limited to physical tissue loss. By moving between plants, they can facilitate the spread of fungal and bacterial infections. Furthermore, their slimy trails and excrement contaminate the harvest, making produce unsightly and prone to rapid decay, which is especially detrimental for commercial vegetable production.
