Kardamon

Agrotechnics and Yield Potential

The 'Cardamon' hybrid is a selection developed by the Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the NAAS of Ukraine, registered in 2018. Adapted for the Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones, it demonstrates high productivity, reaching 40–50 t/ha. Its bush-type growth habit eliminates the need for vine training, significantly simplifying maintenance and harvesting.

Cultivation Guidelines

To achieve early maturity (40–45 days from germination), follow these cultivation practices:

• Sowing: Seeds should be sown when the soil temperature reaches +12…+14°C. An optimal spacing of 70x70 cm or 90x60 cm ensures sufficient nutrition for each plant and proper air circulation.
• Soil Requirements: The crop thrives in light loams or chernozems with a neutral pH. In heavy clay soils, organic matter should be added to improve aeration.
• Irrigation and Nutrition: During the flowering and fruit-setting phases, 'Cardamon' is highly moisture-demanding. Drip irrigation is recommended to prevent water from hitting the leaves, which reduces the risk of fungal diseases.
• Maintenance: Regular inter-row cultivation is necessary until the leaves close. Weed control in the early stages is critical, as the plant is sensitive to competition for nutrients.

The disc-shaped fruits, weighing 200–400 g, are versatile in use. Their light green skin and firm flesh make this hybrid an ideal choice for home cooking, as well as for industrial canning and pickling.
