The 2025 novelty, the 'Bolognese' complex squash hybrid, demonstrates excellent adaptability to intensive vegetable farming conditions. Due to its bush-type growth with moderate branching, this variety is optimal for dense planting, allowing for efficient land use.

Sowing and spacing recommendations

To obtain early produce, seeds are sown in warmed soil (at least +12...+14°C) or grown via seedlings. The optimal spacing is 80x80 cm or 100x70 cm. This distance ensures that the plant, with its large leaf blades, receives sufficient light and ventilation, which is critical for preventing fungal diseases.

Soil requirements and irrigation

‘Bolognese’ prefers light, organic-rich loams with a neutral pH. The crop is moisture-demanding, especially during the flowering and active fruiting phases. Drip irrigation is recommended: it prevents wetting of the leaves and stems, reducing the risk of disease. During the formation of the conical-elliptical fruits, it is important to maintain stable soil moisture, preventing the root ball from drying out.

Care by development stages

• Initial stage: After the emergence of seedlings with characteristic elliptical cotyledons, it is important to loosen the inter-rows to allow oxygen to reach the roots.
• Vegetation: Given the moderate branching, the plant does not require complex pruning, but timely weeding in the first 3–4 weeks is mandatory.
• Fruiting: Regular harvesting of young fruits stimulates the formation of new ovaries. Given the presence of spines on the petioles, it is recommended to wear gloves during harvest.

The hybrid is resistant to stress factors, and its morphological features (large leaves, moderate dissection) allow the plant to shade its own root system, conserving moisture on hot days.
