YK 401

Winter barley variety YK 401® was developed by the Krasnokutskaya Breeding Experimental Station and is intended for sowing in agriculture. This medium-early variety is characterized by high yield and good technological properties, making it in demand in various climatic zones. The vegetative period ranges from 73 to 88 days, the plant is medium-height with a semi-erect bush, and the ear is two-rowed, loose, 8-10 cm long with long awned bearded awns. The grain is large, round, with a mass of 1000 grains ranging from 43 to 54 grams, ensuring stability and quality of the harvest. Variety YK 401 belongs to the steppe ecotype and has high drought resistance, allowing it to successfully develop even with low moisture availability. It bushes well and is capable of forming large grain, which is confirmed by a stable mass of 1000 grains with fluctuations not exceeding 11%. Protein content in the grain varies from 11.3 to 15.0%, making it valuable for both feed and brewing purposes. The plant is moderately susceptible to powdery mildew, but susceptible to dwarf rust and helminthosporiosis, which requires attention in agrotechnical measures. YK 401 has high productivity and adaptability to various growing conditions. Average grain yield during tests at the station reached 3.43 t/h, which is 0.74 t/h higher compared to other varieties. In state variety trials, yield reached up to 5.3 t/h, exceeding standard indicators by 1.1 t/h. The variety is well adapted to mechanized harvesting and processing, which facilitates its use in modern agrotechnologies. The pedigree of the variety includes several well-known lines, which ensures its genetic stability and high grain quality.
