Barley Zevs

ZEUS is a mid-season spring barley variety intended for grain and fodder use. The plant is characterized by medium height and six-rowed heads with a cylindrical shape and loose structure, featuring a weak waxy coating. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 41 to 51 grams; the grain is large, with a smooth ventral groove and an enclosing lodicule. The vegetative period lasts 75-90 days, allowing the variety to ripen simultaneously with varieties such as Ksanadu and Gonaar, and slightly earlier than the Ataman variety. The variety differs in moderate-to-high resistance to lodging and good drought tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions, including the Central Black Earth, Northwestern, and Western Siberian regions. Yield in the Central Black Earth region averages 37.1 c/ha, while in Western Siberia it is 26.4 c/ha; in the Lipetsk region, the maximum yield reached 89.5 c/ha. The sowing rate is 5.5-6.0 million seeds per hectare. Protein content in the grain ranges from 7.9 to 15.9%, ensuring good quality fodder raw material. The variety is moderately resistant to common bunt but susceptible to loose smut, helminthosporium, and root rots. It is recommended for cultivation in the Belgorod, Kemerovo, and Lipetsk regions, where it demonstrates stable agronomic indicators and high productivity.
