Wheat Colonia

Dutch breeding for a stable harvest

The «Colonia» wheat from the renowned Dutch brand Nickerson Zwaan is a classic example of soft winter wheat. Developed according to European intensive farming standards, this variety performs confidently in fields where predictability and high yield potential are paramount. This hybrid focuses on balancing high productivity with excellent adaptability to temperate climate conditions.

Agrotechnical profile

The variety belongs to soft winter wheat types. A key feature of «Colonia» is its balanced growing season of 90–100 days. This developmental dynamic allows for efficient use of moisture during the spring period. Agronomists note stable performance indicators:

• Potential yield: 9–10 tons per hectare.
• Seeding density: the optimal number of productive stems is 4.0–4.5 million per hectare.
• Winter hardiness: 7 points (on a 9-point scale), ensuring reliable overwintering in most agricultural zones.
• Lodging resistance: the variety shows a high level of resistance, which is critical for intensive cultivation involving high fertilizer application.

The thousand-kernel weight ranges from 35–40 grams, typical for high-quality soft varieties intended for food production. The high grain uniformity facilitates primary cleaning and processing.

Why farmers choose Nickerson Zwaan

The Nickerson Zwaan brand has a historical focus on creating genetic material that allows farmers to maximize crop potential when following agricultural protocols. «Colonia» is no exception — it is a workhorse that, with proper nutrient management and plant protection, delivers top-tier yield results. The variety is highly sought after by farms focused on export quality standards and stable gross yields, allowing for risk mitigation under various weather scenarios.
