Watermelon Charleston Gray is a mid-season French variety that is excellent for growing in both southern regions and cooler climates. The plant prefers sunny, wind-protected areas and does not tolerate overcrowding; therefore, about 3.5 square meters are recommended for each fruit. Seedlings are planted in warmed soil at the end of May, and fruit begins to form with sustained warm weather. The maturation period is approximately 50 days after fruit set, and up to 27 to 30 kilograms of yield can be obtained from one bush. Watermelon Charleston Gray fruits have an elongated oval shape and a light green color with a dense, smooth, and thick rind about 2.5 centimeters thick. The weight of some specimens reaches 16-18 kilograms. The flesh is juicy, crisp, red in color, and fiberless, making the watermelon particularly tasty and pleasant to eat. Thanks to the dense rind, the fruits withstand transportation over long distances without cracking and maintain their market quality, as well as can be stored for up to two months. The variety is characterized by high resistance to watermelon diseases, including anthracnose and harmful bacteria, which facilitates care and reduces the risk of yield loss. Watermelon Charleston Gray is suitable for growing both in open ground and in greenhouses, demonstrating a stable yield of up to 100 tons per hectare. Watermelon flesh is used not only for fresh consumption but also for making juice and canning, making this variety versatile and in demand among farmers and entrepreneurs.
