Lusitana

Lusitana F1 watermelon is a very early, high-yielding hybrid developed by breeders of the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. The vegetative period is 55-58 days, allowing harvest within two months after transplanting seedlings. The plant features a strong root system and vigorous growth, actively developing leaf mass, which provides reliable protection for fruits against external influences. Lusitana F1 is low-maintenance, resistant to major diseases, and responds well to potassium fertilizers, which contributes to increased yield and fruit quality.

Fruits of the Lusitana watermelon have a round-oval shape and weigh between 6 to 10 kg. The skin is dark green with striped pattern, medium-thick, and strong, ensuring good storage and long-distance transport. The flesh is bright red, tender and crisp, with sugar content at 12-13%, possessing a rich flavor with caramel notes in aftertaste. The Lusitana F1 hybrid is suitable for cultivation both in open ground and under temporary film coverings. It is recommended to graft onto Ferro rootstock and maintain planting density at 7-9 thousand plants per hectare for optimal development and yield.
