Watermelon ELGALI

Field Performance of the «Elgali» Hybrid

When farming watermelons on a commercial scale, yield stability is the ultimate goal. The «Elgali» hybrid by Syngenta is a solid representative of the Charleston Gray type, offering predictable performance under standard field conditions. With fruit weights consistently in the 9–12 kg range, this variety is highly optimized for retail distribution and long-haul transportation.

Disease Resistance and Field Health

The standout feature for any operator working with Elgali is its robust defense against soil-borne pathogens. Resistance to Fusarium wilt and anthracnose is crucial, especially in humid seasons when disease pressure peaks.

Fruit Characteristics and Harvest

• Fruit shape is oval-elongated, typical for this market class.
• The flesh is deep red, dense, and retains its flavor profile well even after transport.
• Seed quality is excellent, providing high germination rates and uniform stand establishment.

In practice, Elgali fruits are highly durable, showing no tendency to crack during the growth phase. When combined with proper irrigation and nutrient management during the fruit-setting stage, this hybrid consistently produces high-quality, market-ready watermelons that command a premium price.
