The 'Alex' hazelnut variety is an improved version of the 'INTP' variety, developed by breeder Alexander Ponomarenko. This variety is characterized by large nuts and thin pericarps, which contribute to increased nut size. In terms of agronomic characteristics, 'Alex' surpasses its predecessor: average yield reaches 4.1 tons per hectare, kernel yield is 52%, and harvest maturity occurs 155 days after flowering. Additionally, the variety exhibits high winter and drought resistance, rated 8 points on a 9-point scale, making it reliable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. Cultivation of the 'Alex' variety does not require chemical sprays, making it an ecologically clean product. Natural fertilizer — chlorophyll — is used, which promotes healthy tree development and improves fruit quality. A single six-year-old tree can yield approximately 300 kg of nuts, indicating high productivity when properly cared for and planted using an intensive 5x6 meter spacing scheme. The 'Alex' hazelnut variety is suitable for wide application in food industry and household consumption due to its high kernel yield and large nut size. It can be recommended for cultivation in both southern and more northern regions due to its good winter hardiness. The variety combines high productivity, resistance to adverse conditions, and ecological safety, making it a promising choice for both commercial and private gardening.
