Description Michurinskaya Pozdnyaya
Developed by T.V. Morozova at the VNIISAD (All-Union Research Institute of Horticulture) named after I.V. Michurin from seed of the cherry variety 'Leningradskaya Yellow', treated at the germination stage with the chemical mutagen 'EI' at a concentration of 0.025%. Under state variety trials since 1994.
Medium-sized tree, fast-growing, with a rounded, slightly raised crown of medium density. Fruit-bearing primarily on bouquet branches of various ages. Bark on the trunk and skeletal branches is brown. Shoots are thick, straight, bare, brown, with a small number of small lenticels. Buds are medium-sized, egg-shaped, strongly deviated relative to the shoot. Leaves are medium-sized, narrowly oval in shape, doubly serrated, smooth in texture, dark green, shiny, without hairs. Leaf petiole is short, thin, with anthocyanin coloring along its entire length. Two large dark-red glands are present on the leaf petiole. Stipules are absent. Flowers are large, white, rose-like. Petal shape is rounded. Flowering period is medium. Stigma is higher than the stamens.
Fruits are above-average size, weighing 6.5 g, broad-heart-shaped with a rounded apex, with a medium indentation at the base and a barely noticeable ventral seam. Pedicel is short, medium thickness, easily separates from the branch. Fruits are dark red. Skin spots are absent. Pit is medium-sized, oval, smooth, easily separates from the flesh. Taste is sweet. Chemical composition: sugars — 12.98%, acids — 0.45%, ascorbic acid — 9.79 mg/100g.
Fruits ripen late. Harvesting maturity in Michurinsk occurs in the second decade of July. Transportability is good. Variety is of universal use.
Fruit-bearing begins on the 5-6th year. Yield is regular, 80-140 centners per hectare under Michurinsk conditions. Self-sterile variety. Possible pollinators: Michurinka, Rose Pearl. Cold-resistant, drought-tolerant, highly resistant to coccomycosis. Propagation by budding: on seedlings of cultivated cherry varieties and clonal rootstocks of Vladimirskaya.
Advantages of the variety: cold resistance, dark fruit color, good transportability, regular yield.
Disadvantages: short-lived wood due to insufficient cold resistance.
