Memory of Kaysine

Obtained by S.Yu. Debiskaeva at the North Caucasus Research Institute of Mountain and Pre-mountain Horticulture, seedling of the 'French Mountain' variety from open pollination. Under state variety testing since 2005.

Medium-growing tree, with a flat, somewhat sparse, bushy crown. Bark on the trunk is flaking and brown. Shoots are thin, straight, brownish-gray, bare. Buds are few, small, red. Vegetative buds are small, pointed, generative buds are oval, slightly deviated from the shoot. Leaves are medium-sized, medium length and width, elliptical, bluntly pointed. Upper leaf surface is dark green, matte, smooth. No pubescence on the underside. Leaf blade is concave. Apex is gradually pointed. Petiole is medium length, green, medium thickness. Stipules are small, solitary, round, light-red. Number of inflorescences (from one generative bud) — triple. Flower corolla diameter is medium (3.0 cm). Flower is deep cup-shaped, medium size, white. Petals are oval, overlapping, with serrated edges. Number of stamens in the flower — 25-30. Stamens length — 0.8-1.0 cm. Pistil is longer than stamens — 1.2-1.4 cm. Sepals are narrow, curved outward, with red pigmentation. Has a mixed flowering and fruiting type.

Fruits are large, fruit mass 8 g, round, dark red almost black. Fruit apex is rounded, depression is wide. Base of the fruit has no indentation, pit is small, medium. Ventral suture is medium depth, barely noticeable, does not crack. No lenticels. Skin is medium, bare, does not peel off the fruit. Flesh is dark red, medium density. Juice is red. Flavor is sour-sweet with a spicy note. Pedicel length is short, medium thickness, detaches well from the branch. Attachment of the pedicel to the stone is weak. Stone detaches easily from the flesh. Stone mass 0.3 g, medium size, broadly elliptical, smooth, pink, with a separating layer (dry detachment). Fruits contain 15% dry matter, 13% sugars, 0.5% acids, and 10.2 mg/100g ascorbic acid. Flavor is sour-sweet. Taste score — 4.9 points. Has dry detachment of the pedicel.

Flowering period is medium. Fruit ripening period — June 15-20, medium. Enters fruiting at 4-5 years. Yield is good and regular (160-190 centners/ha.

Tree, shoots, and generative buds are resistant to winter frosts; flowers are relatively resistant to spring frosts. Drought and heat resistance are medium. Resistance to pests and diseases is good.

Suitable for planting in intensive orchards, in all forms of farming. Can be used in breeding programs to develop varieties with excellent fruit taste for fresh consumption, freezing, jams, juices, dried fruit.

Advantages of the variety: resistance to winter temperature fluctuations, beautiful large fruits of universal use, relatively resistant to pests and diseases.

Disadvantages of the variety: fruit size reduction under poor agronomic practices.
