Weigela 'Alexandra' is a compact decorative shrub reaching up to 1.2 m in height and approximately the same width, with an rounded conical crown. During the first two years, growth can reach 20–25 cm per year, after which growth slows down; at five years old the plant is considered mature, and its size stabilizes.
Beautiful dark burgundy leaves with beige veins and small serrated edges retain their color until frost. Leaves do not fall during the season, acquiring a purple nuance in good light, and becoming more yellowish at sunset. The shrub easily withstands both sunny and semi-shaded locations; prefers moist but well-drained soils – from loams to clayey soils.
Weigela 'Alexandra' flowers are large, tubular, resembling ringing bells. They are colored dark pink and gradually darken as they develop. Blooming lasts from June to July, while the shrub remains a bright decorative accent in the garden or park due to saturated colors and a dense conical shape. Weigela is frost-resistant up to -32 °C, does not tolerate waterlogging, and is moderately drought-tolerant, requiring periodic watering. This makes it an ideal choice for single plantings, group compositions, or borders in urban greening.
