Sweet Potato Napoleon

Practical Potential of «Napoleon» Sweet Potato

The «Napoleon» variety, developed by N.A. Lutsan and co-authors, occupies a solid niche in the market for table-grade sweet potatoes, focusing on consistent tuber quality. Under field conditions, this variety demonstrates strong adaptability to various climatic zones, making it an effective choice for both small-scale farming and commercial vegetable production.

Cultivation and Operational Specifics

The decision to grow «Napoleon» is typically driven by its culinary versatility. Unlike fodder or industrial variants, this variety boasts a balanced sugar content and a firm texture, both of which are critical for retail sales or supply to farmers' markets.

• Agronomics: The variety requires standard soil preparation for heat-loving crops. Light, sandy-loam soils are preferred as they facilitate rapid soil warming and ease of mechanical harvesting.
• Objectives: «Napoleon» is exceptionally well-suited for long-term storage, allowing farmers to strategically time their market entry rather than selling at low seasonal prices immediately after harvest.
• Application: Due to the uniformity of its tubers, this sweet potato is ideal for washing and packaging—operations that significantly increase the added value of the final product.

Field experience confirms that «Napoleon» responds exceptionally well to drip irrigation. With proper watering schedules and precise nutrient management, the variety delivers high marketable yields, minimizing waste. For any farm, this translates into a higher output of high-quality produce per square meter of cultivated land.
