Agastache ASTRAKHANSKIY 100

Botanical Profile and Breeding Value

The 'Astrakhansky 100' cultivar is the result of focused breeding by the All-Russian Research Institute of Irrigated Vegetable and Melon Growing (VNI IOOB), aimed at stabilizing high levels of essential oils and antioxidant compounds in Agastache biomass. Unlike wild forms, this variety exhibits uniform shoot development and predictable dynamics of bioactive substance accumulation, which is critical for the industrial cultivation of medicinal raw materials.

Technical Specifications and Morphology

• Crop: Anise Hyssop (Agastache).
• Originator: VNI IOOB (All-Russian Research Institute of Irrigated Vegetable and Melon Growing).
• Architecture: Upright plant reaching 100–120 cm in height with vigorous branching, ensuring optimal leaf surface area for photosynthesis.
• Reproduction: The variety is adapted to temperate climatic conditions and demonstrates high seed productivity.

Practical Application and Agronomy

A high concentration of methyl chavicol defines the specific anise-mint aroma, making 'Astrakhansky 100' highly sought after in both the pharmaceutical and food industries. To achieve the maximum yield of essential oil—the primary commercial indicator—harvesting should take place during the mass flowering phase, when component concentration in the inflorescences peaks. The cultivar’s root system performs efficiently under drip irrigation, allowing for controlled vegetative growth and preventing the lodging of the tall, heavy stems.
