O VITALIY – an author's sweet potato variety from the Luzhan family, created in 2019. Tubers of this variety are characterized by a dense texture and low juiciness in raw form: they are hard, contain almost no water, and offer little flavor when eaten fresh. However, after baking, the sweet potato transforms into a soft, sticky, and sweet dish with a characteristic starchy aftertaste, which many appreciate for its rich aroma and pleasant texture.
The variety belongs to the extensive Luzhan sweet potato collection, which includes options with white, yellow, orange, and purple flesh. O VITALIY stands out for its versatility: it is suitable for both early and mid-growing periods, and can also successfully grow under short summer conditions. Thanks to its drought resistance and ability to develop even in moderate climate zones, this variety is easy to cultivate in various regions.
To successfully grow sweet potatoes, basic agronomic requirements must be observed: seedlings are planted in February–March, with a distance of 40–50 cm between plants and no less than 1 m between rows. Mulching and drip irrigation contribute to moisture retention and improved tuber quality. Tubers are stored at temperatures of +12–18 °C and humidity of 50–80 %, preferably in paper boxes to avoid damage from airtight containers. O VITALIY is not just a vegetable, but a product with a rich flavor and high culinary value, which fits easily into both everyday dishes and more exquisite recipes.
