Vegetable Pea Durango

Working with Durango peas

Working with vegetable peas from Monsanto usually means expecting consistency, and 'Durango' definitely delivers on that front. This mid-season hybrid, with a vegetation period of 70–80 days, allows for precise harvest scheduling. From an agronomic standpoint, its standout quality is resilience. Fusarium wilt, which often ruins crops under stress, was not a significant threat to this hybrid.

Crop characteristics and harvest

The pods of 'Durango' are distinctly pointed, measuring 9–10 cm in length. For those using harvesting machinery, this is an optimal size — the pods are firm and well-filled, which minimizes harvest losses and shattering. The peas themselves are uniform and offer high marketability, making them a great choice for the fresh produce sector.

• Vegetation period: 70–80 days.
• Pod shape: pointed.
• Pod length: 9–10 cm.
• Health: high resistance to Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew.

Practical note: 'Durango' requires consistent moisture, especially during the flowering stage. Under drought conditions without irrigation, the plant may drop some pods, impacting total yield. However, with proper management and timely watering, the crop provides a reliable, high-quality result that justifies the investment in the seeds and labor.
