Tulip Tity's Star (urumiensis)

Botanical Profile and Performance

Tulipa urumiensis, known in trade as 'Tete's Star', represents a robust botanical species rather than a high-maintenance hybrid. For growers and landscape operators, this variety offers predictable performance and remarkable resilience against the unpredictable temperature fluctuations of early spring.

Maintenance and Operational Ease

Standing at a compact height of only 10-15 cm, this tulip is ideal for foreground planting, rock gardens, and border arrangements. A significant advantage in terms of maintenance is its structural integrity; the stems are rigid and self-supporting, requiring no staking even in windy conditions. Furthermore, if the soil offers adequate drainage, these bulbs can remain in the ground for years without the need for annual lifting, significantly reducing labor intensity.

Visual Impact

The bright yellow petals open into a distinctive star shape when exposed to sunlight. The exterior of the petals features a subtle bronze-olive hue, providing a sophisticated look even when the flower remains closed during overcast weather. This chromatic shift adds depth to the garden display throughout the day.

Practical Planting Guidelines

• For a lush, carpet-like effect, group bulbs in clusters of 10-15, maintaining a 5-7 cm spacing.
• Drainage is critical; avoid waterlogged sites during the dormant season to prevent bulb rot.
• Excellent for naturalizing in sunny, well-drained slopes, perfectly pairing with early blooming Muscari.
