Perennial oxeye daisy 'Mayfield' (Leucanthemum maximum) reaches a height of up to 90 cm and is characterized by numerous branched stems. Leaves are located along the stems: lower ones are petiolate, lobed; upper ones are elongated, sessile with denticulate edges. Inflorescences are large baskets with a diameter of 10–12 cm consisting of a double row of ray florets with a bright yellow center.
The plant prefers sunny locations and fertile, fertilized, well-drained soil. For successful growing, seeds should be sown in spring for seedlings or in autumn in open ground ridges; shoots appear after 14–20 days at a soil temperature of about +15 °C. Seedlings bloom already in the second year, and bushes are divided on the 3rd-4th year of cultivation in spring and transplanted with an interval of 30 cm.
'Mayfield' looks great in group plantings on the lawn or as a decorative element next to shrubs. It is also suitable for cutting: after flowering, shoots can be cut off, and in winter covered with dry leaves up to 10–15 cm thick. Care includes regular watering and mulching (wood chips, grass). With insufficient light or poor soil, the plant may show a deterioration of growth and flowering. For prevention against diseases, it is recommended to treat at the first signs of rot processes and other pathogens.
