Tulip Stockholm

Practical Guide to Growing the Early Double Tulip 'Stockholm'

The 'Stockholm' tulip is a specialized hybrid favored by professional floriculturists for its predictable performance and high aesthetic value. In a commercial production setting, this variety is prized for its reliability in forced conditions.

Disease Resistance and Farm Economics

One of the key technical advantages of the 'Stockholm' variety is its strong genetic resistance to common fungal pathogens. In the high-humidity environment of greenhouses, it effectively manages the risks of:

• Sclerotinia (Sclerotiniosis)
• Downy mildew (Peronosporosis)
• Phomopsis
• Phoma rot (Phomosis)

This natural resilience allows growers to implement a leaner, more cost-effective crop protection program, significantly reducing the expenditure on fungicides and minimizing waste due to bulb decay.

Operational Scenarios

Due to its short stature and early, uniform blooming cycle, 'Stockholm' is best utilized in the following operations:

• Commercial Forcing: Ideal for mid-season harvest schedules. The vivid red petals have strong market appeal for early spring demand.
• Pot Culture: Its low height ensures sturdy, balanced plants that are easy to transport and display in retail environments.
• Landscaping: Given its disease resistance, it is a reliable choice for professional municipal or private landscaping projects where uniform height and early color are required.

By integrating 'Stockholm' into your rotation, you leverage a variety that combines high-quality floral traits with the robust health required for large-scale agricultural success.
