Tulip Soestdijk

Reliability in Commercial Production: The 'Soestdijk' Tulip

For commercial growers, the selection of a cultivar is a strategic decision balancing aesthetic market appeal with operational resilience. The 'Soestdijk' tulip, belonging to the Triumph class, has established itself as a reliable choice for mid-season production. Known for its steady growth cycle and environmental adaptability, this variety is highly favored for both greenhouse forcing and container cultivation.

Disease Resistance and Farm Management

A primary bottleneck in bulb production is the threat of fungal pathogens. 'Soestdijk' offers a distinct competitive advantage through its innate resistance to Alternaria and downy mildew (Peronospora). This robustness significantly lowers the necessity for frequent fungicide applications, resulting in reduced operational costs and a more sustainable production model. For large-scale growers, this translates to higher margins and fewer losses during intensive growing cycles.

Practical Applications

• Commercial Cut Flower Production: The 'Soestdijk' is highly sought after for its medium height and elegant white-pink petals. This color profile is a staple for spring arrangements, ensuring consistent demand during peak retail periods.
• Forcing and Scheduling: As a mid-season bloomer, this variety is an essential tool for growers building a multi-stage production schedule. It fits perfectly into the window between early botanical varieties and late-season Darwin hybrids, allowing for efficient labor management.

When cultivating 'Soestdijk', success is tied to proper temperature management during the rooting phase. The variety develops a sturdy, proportional stem that retains its upright posture even under stress, making it easier to handle during harvest and transit. Its structural integrity ensures that flowers arrive at the market with the high-quality appearance required for wholesale and retail distribution.
