Tulip Scala

Operation and Cultivation Management

As a 'Triumph' class tulip, 'Scala' is designed for professional greenhouse operations. Its mid-season flowering and significant height demand precise climate control. Operators should focus on lighting and humidity management to ensure the stems remain sturdy and resilient. Given its height, mechanical handling during harvesting is straightforward, provided the ventilation in the growth chambers is managed to avoid excessive elongation.

Disease Resistance and Maintenance

The primary operational benefit of 'Scala' is its robust biological profile. Resistance to Peronospora, Phomopsis, Phoma, and sunflower rust significantly lowers the burden on integrated pest management (IPM) protocols. Lower fungicide usage translates directly into reduced input costs and fewer labor hours spent on chemical applications. The storage of bulbs is predictable, with low mortality rates provided standard post-harvest drying and temperature protocols are followed.

Logistics and Commercial Value

The distinct pink bloom is highly marketable, and the flower structure is optimized for retail. The petals maintain integrity long after cutting, which is a major advantage for cold-chain logistics. 'Scala' proves to be a low-maintenance, high-yield cultivar for growers who prioritize durability and transportability in their inventory.
