Tulip Schoonoord

A Legacy of Dutch Breeding

The Schoonoord tulip is a celebrated mutation of the legendary Murillo variety, standing as a historical benchmark in the early double tulip category. Since its introduction, it has maintained its market position by combining classic aesthetic appeal—a pristine, pure white flower—with the reliable growth habits that professional growers demand. Its enduring popularity stems from its consistency, providing a predictable performance across varying climatic conditions.

Resilience and Phytosanitary Profile

Beyond its visual appeal, Schoonoord is highly valued for its genetic robustness. In commercial and residential cultivation, the variety demonstrates significant resistance to key fungal pathogens that often compromise bulb health:

• Peronospora: Enhanced resistance to downy mildew, reducing the need for aggressive chemical intervention.
• Phomopsis: Strong defense against stem blight.
• Phoma: Proven tolerance to phoma rot, which is vital for maintaining bulb density and plant health in high-density plantings.

Although classified as an Early Double tulip, its bloom time falls into the mid-season category, making it an essential bridge plant in landscape design. This maturity timing allows growers to stagger the flowering period effectively when paired with earlier or later blooming varieties.

Market Application

The short stature of the plant makes it an industry favorite for pot culture and container gardening. Unlike taller varieties that may struggle with structural integrity in exposed sites, Schoonoord remains compact and sturdy. Whether utilized for professional forcing or as a reliable performer in garden borders, this variety offers a perfect balance of low-maintenance requirements and high-quality floral production. It remains a top choice for those who prioritize plant health and consistent, elegant white color in the spring landscape.
