Tulip Ppraestans 'Van Tubergen's Variety'

Botanical Profile of Praestans 'Van Tubergen's Variety'

This cultivar belongs to the Praestans species group, representing a botanical line that retains the adaptive resilience of its wild ancestors. Unlike modern garden hybrids, 'Van Tubergen's Variety' features multi-flowering stems, capable of producing 3 to 5 blooms per bulb. This structural characteristic provides a 'bouquet' effect, significantly increasing the visual impact of each planting spot without requiring excessive bulb density.

Technical Growth Parameters

• Flowering Cycle: Early season. The plant initiates development at lower temperatures, effectively utilizing early spring moisture and completing its growth phase before summer heat sets in.
• Stalk Morphology: The medium height provides an optimal center of gravity, offering superior resistance to wind gusts and precipitation. The cellular structure of the stems is robust, preventing lodging during bloom.
• Pigmentation: The vibrant red color is defined by high anthocyanin concentration, ensuring stability and intensity even under fluctuating light conditions early in the season.

Agronomic Performance

The primary advantage of this cultivar lies in its perennial hardiness and reproductive vigor. Unlike highly hybridized varieties that often lose vitality over time, 'Van Tubergen's Variety' excels in naturalization. The bulbs consistently produce healthy offsets, ensuring long-term sustainability within a landscape. Its high tolerance for cold and minor frost events stems from its genetic heritage, evolved in the mountainous regions of Central Asia, making it a reliable and low-maintenance choice for professional horticulture.
