Tulip Marechal Niel

Field Performance and Cultivation Specs

‘Marechal Niel’ is a high-performance early double tulip that stands out for its compact structure and vibrant orange blooms. Designed for professional landscaping and container gardening, this cultivar excels where height control and visual density are prioritized. Operators value this variety for its operational stability: there is no need for support structures, and the plant maintains its integrity even during unpredictable early-spring weather.

Operational Maintenance and Handling

• Planting and Density: Thanks to its low-growing habit, this tulip is exceptionally durable against wind damage. Optimal planting depth is 10-12 cm, which balances root development with stem stability.
• Watering Regimes: The heavy double head requires consistent moisture, but the variety is sensitive to waterlogging. Effective drainage is essential for maintaining the health of the base, especially in the early growing stages.
• Reproduction: This cultivar shows excellent reliability in propagation. Annual harvesting and drying of bulbs allow for high yield rates of viable offsets that retain the characteristic orange hue and double-petal structure of the mother plant.

Maintenance is straightforward, focusing on standard bulb hygiene: lifting after foliage senescence, cleaning, and storing at a stable 18–20°C. For commercial growers, ‘Marechal Niel’ is a low-risk asset; its predictable growth cycle and high consumer appeal for low-border planting make it an efficient choice for spring inventory. It does not require intensive chemical intervention, assuming basic soil health protocols are met.
