Tulip Brunello

An Engineering Approach to 'Brunello' Biology

The 'Brunello' tulip is a selective achievement within the double early tulip class. The focus of this hybrid is shifted toward structural bud integrity and adaptability to soil-borne pathogens, making it highly demanded in professional floriculture.

Biological Defense: Pathogen Resistance

A critical node in this hybrid's resilience is its genetic defense profile against soil-borne fungi. 'Brunello' breeding has achieved a high level of resistance to Fusarium wilt and Verticillium wilt. In practice, this minimizes losses of planting material during forcing, as the bulb possesses an "immune" barrier against the main pathogens responsible for root rot.

Technical Flowering Specifications

The double form of 'Brunello' provides dense petal layering, which forms a voluminous cup of saturated orange when fully open. Despite belonging to the early tulip class, the hybrid demonstrates mid-early flowering timing, allowing for flexible market scheduling. The plant's low stature provides excellent wind resistance and compactness, which is crucial for greenhouse cultivation with high-density planting: the stem does not require additional support and maintains a commercial appearance during transport.

• Class: Double Early.
• Color Palette: Bright orange monotone.
• Habitus: Low-growing, compact.
• Phytosanitary Profile: Increased resistance to Fusarium and Verticillium.

This hybrid represents a balance between aesthetic appeal and technical reliability, ensuring predictable results in commercial production.
