Tulip Freeman

An Elegant Accent for the Late Season

The 'Freeman' tulip is a distinguished representative of the late-flowering double tulip class, highly valued for its dense, peony-like structure and sophisticated aesthetic. Its market introduction addressed a specific niche for landscape designers seeking a plant capable of finalizing spring arrangements with a unique color palette.

Visual Characteristics and Cultivation

The hallmark of the 'Freeman' is its unique bronze-toned petals. Its double flower form makes it a top choice for borders and container gardening. Due to its short stature, this tulip remains robust against spring winds, maintaining its form elegantly without the need for staking.

Disease Resistance

Commercial growers prioritize this variety not only for its beauty but also for its exceptional physiological resilience. The breeding process focused on strengthening the plant's immunity against common bulb-related pathogens:

• High resistance to Fusarium and Fusarium wilt.
• Robust defense against root rot.
• Excellent tolerance to powdery mildew.

These traits make 'Freeman' a reliable investment for those aiming to minimize bulb losses, even in conditions with high moisture or challenging soil profiles.

Market Positioning and Use

Unlike early-spring varieties, 'Freeman' blooms in the mid-to-late season. This makes it an ideal candidate for tiered flower beds where early bloomers transition to late-season stars. Its low height is perfect for the foreground of garden beds or lining walkways, where its distinct bronze hues glow brilliantly in the setting spring sun.
