Tulip Van Eijk

Why 'Van Eijk' remains the Gold Standard for Commercial Tulip Forcing

In the landscape of Darwin Hybrid tulips, 'Van Eijk' holds a position of prestige for its reliability. Rather than just being an aesthetically pleasing salmon-pink flower, it functions as a high-performance cultivar designed for the rigors of commercial horticulture. For growers targeting spring holidays, 'Van Eijk' acts as a safeguard, balancing high output with exceptional genetic resistance.

Technical Edge

• Resilience: The cultivar features innate resistance to fusarium wilt and powdery mildew, which significantly reduces the need for heavy chemical intervention during the growing season.
• Growth Habit: With its medium height and robust stem, the variety is structurally sound, ensuring it handles logistics and standard box packaging with minimal damage.
• Visual Appeal: The deep salmon petals possess a satin-like finish that allows it to stand out in a competitive market against standard red and yellow cultivars.

Performance Insights

The primary advantage of 'Van Eijk' is its vigor. It is a mid-season bloomer that exhibits aggressive growth potential without sacrificing stem strength. The dense, heavy bud adds volume to the stem, increasing its market value. However, the trade-off for this vigor is a requirement for precise temperature management during bulb storage. Failure to maintain the proper cool-chain cycle can lead to uneven flowering, making it a variety for growers who prioritize controlled, professional environments.

For those aiming for a high-quality, premium cut-flower crop, 'Van Eijk' offers the perfect compromise between operational efficiency and aesthetic beauty. It is a variety that rewards precise agronomic practice with consistent, high-market-value yields.
