Tulip Calibra

A resilient spirit among delicate petals

The 'Calibra' tulip holds a unique position in the fringed cultivar segment. Unlike many ornamental varieties that require greenhouse pampering, this tulip displays surprising resilience for its class. Its robust immune system successfully resists Fusarium wilt, Ascochyta blight, anthracnose, and root rots, making it a reliable favorite for outdoor planting.

Aesthetics and Technical Specifications

• Class: Fringed tulip, characterized by delicate 'needle-like' petal edges.
• Color Palette: Deep, intense red shade.
• Phenology: Mid-season flowering, bridging the gap between early and late varieties.
• Structure: Moderate stem height ensures excellent resistance to wind damage.

Strengths: The primary advantage of 'Calibra' is the balance between visual appeal and survival rates. Fringed tulips are often susceptible to fungal infections during high humidity, yet this variety handles these challenges independently, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications.

Weaknesses: Like most mid-season varieties, it requires proper site selection: despite its resistance to rot, excessive water stagnation in heavy soils remains undesirable. Additionally, to achieve the most expressive fringe display, the variety requires consistent light exposure.

Who is this for? 'Calibra' is an optimal choice for professional growers producing tulips for cut flowers or landscape compositions. If you are looking for a variety that maintains its vitality throughout the season without requiring constant monitoring for root infections, 'Calibra' will be a valuable addition to your inventory.
