Tomato ROVINO

Yield stability against aggressive viral pathogens

Rovino from Syngenta is a professional-grade solution to the most significant threat in modern greenhouses: the rapid spread of viral diseases. With the tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) capable of wiping out up to 80% of production, selecting a resilient hybrid like Rovino is essential for operational survival and profitability.

Technological potential and market-ready fruit

The defining feature of Rovino is its combination of high productivity (160–190 tons per hectare) and superior shelf life. The firmness of its 100–150g fruits ensures excellent transportability, maintaining market quality over long distances. These vibrant red, uniform tomatoes remain shelf-stable for over 30 days, meeting the high standards of modern retail supply chains.

A robust defense barrier

Syngenta has engineered this hybrid to tackle a broad spectrum of pathogens. Rovino provides comprehensive resistance not only to classic threats such as verticillium wilt, fusarium wilt, and tomato mosaic virus but also to aggressive emerging viral strains. This reduces the dependency on intensive fungicide programs and protects the bottom line from unexpected disease outbreaks.

• Target Audience: Industrial greenhouse operations focused on large-scale distribution and retail.
• Key Strengths: High stress tolerance and predictable performance under intensive management.
• Limitations: Requires strict agronomic protocols and precise nutrient management to fully maximize its genetic yield potential.
