Tomato MONISTO PURPLE

Growing Practice: "Monisto Purpurnoe"

Working with indeterminate tomatoes from the "Gavrish" brand, one immediately grasps the specifics: this variety requires disciplined care. "Monisto Purpurnoe" is not a "plant and forget" type of crop. Being an indeterminate plant, it strictly demands staking and pruning into one or two stems; otherwise, the heavy yield will result in an unmanageable bush and reduced fruit quality.

Fruiting and Harvesting Details

The 120–130 day vegetation period classifies it as a mid-to-late season variety. In both greenhouse and open-field conditions, this means the primary harvest occurs in the second half of the season. Heart-shaped fruits, weighing between 100–150 grams (with some specimens exceeding 200 grams), maintain their shape remarkably well. A crucial point for market sales or long-term storage is the skin density, which ensures excellent transportability and a shelf life of 10–20 days after harvest.

• Trellis requirements: Due to the indeterminate growth habit, the support structure must be robust enough to handle the weight of dense fruit clusters.
• Fertilization: The variety responds well to potassium fertilizers, especially during the fruit-filling stage, which directly impacts density and flavor.
• Maintenance: Timely suckering is critical to ensure proper air circulation within the canopy, minimizing the risk of blight.

If your objective is to harvest produce that won't become mushy during transport to the point of sale, "Monisto Purpurnoe" proves to be a reliable and predictable tool for any agronomist. The key is simply adhering to the standardized pruning and shaping techniques.
