Tomato Laura

Engineering Approach to the Breeding of the "Laura" Tomato

This breeding product from "Ssf Gisok" is the result of meticulous work by the originators (E.N. Andreeva, Seleksionno-semenovodcheskaya Firma Tomagros, L.G. Avakumova), aimed at creating a highly specialized variety with predictable performance. The indeterminate growth habit requires agronomists to adhere to a strict strategy of pruning and canopy management. Over a growth cycle of 120–130 days, the crop demonstrates high efficiency in land utilization, whether in greenhouse or field settings.

Fruit Architecture: The Advantages of the Plum Shape

The key technical advantage of "Laura" lies in its fruit geometry. The plum-like shape, combined with a weight of 60–80 grams, ensures optimal tissue density. The internal structure is two-chambered, which minimizes free moisture and air pockets. This significantly impacts two critical parameters:

• Shelf life and transportability: The rigid fruit wall structure resists mechanical stress during sorting and shipping.
• Processing efficiency: Uniform sizing makes these tomatoes ideal for whole-fruit canning without compromising aesthetics or skin integrity.

The orange coloration indicates a specific biochemical profile—an elevated beta-carotene content—making the variety a strong contender in the health-focused food market. In practical terms, "Laura" is positioned not for the bulk market, but for processing facilities and retailers targeting the premium produce segment.
