Lonicera periclymenum (Honeysuckle) – a deciduous shrub known for its hardiness and attractive appearance. The plant prefers sunny locations, light, well-tilled soils with good drainage. Water should be moderate: the plant likes bright and moist conditions, but can withstand cold periods.
Large, bright scarlet flowers are clustered in loose cymes of 3–10 flowers. Blooming lasts from June to September, and in the second year the plant blooms especially profusely. Thanks to the tendrils that cling to obstacles, honeysuckle easily covers fences, trellises, and nets, creating a living flowering carpet.
For cultivation, seeds are pre-soaked in warm water for 24 hours, then sown at a depth of about 1 cm. At a soil temperature of +15 °C, seedlings appear within 20–30 days. Seedlings are planted out in late May (or early June if seeds have already germinated), leaving a distance between plants of 25 to 60 cm. Honeysuckle can be used for both vertical greening and group planting in lawns with support. Cut flowers maintain freshness in water and are excellent for small bouquets.
