LS 779 is an early-maturing super-sweet corn hybrid of the SH-2 type with a maturation period of 75–78 days. Plants reach a height of 180–190 cm and form cylindrical ears 24–26 cm long and about 5 cm in diameter, with yellow kernels arranged in 16–18 rows. Due to its high sugar content, which remains stable for a long time, this hybrid is in high demand for both fresh consumption and processing.
LS 779 corn is well-adapted to various climatic conditions and soil types, especially preferring light, well-drained sandy loam and fertile soils. The plant is not fussy about soil, but responds best to organic fertilizers such as manure, compost, peat, poultry manure, and also to mineral fertilizers — phosphate, nitrogen, and potassium. The recommended sowing rate is 50–55 thousand plants per hectare, with the optimal planting time being late spring, when the soil is sufficiently warmed. Seeds should be sown to a depth of about 6 cm, with 3–4 seeds per hole.
The hybrid is resistant to diseases and stressful conditions: plants show resistance to the Master Power fungicide at a dosage of 1.25 l/ha during the developmental stage from 3 to 6 leaves. Moreover, LS 779 corn is drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant, and highly resistant to diseases such as SCLB and NCLB. To achieve a high yield, adequate irrigation is essential, especially during ear formation and pollen shedding, as water deficiency during this period may negatively affect the size and quality of the harvest.
