Starobil'skyi — this is a sunflower hybrid developed by the Lugansk Institute of Selection and Technologies, distinguished by its early vegetation period and high adaptability to various soil-climatic conditions, especially in the Steppe zone of Ukraine. The hybrid possesses genetic resistance to the latest races of downy mildew, significantly enhancing its reliability during cultivation. Due to its high plasticity and resistance to lodging, Starobil'skyi demonstrates stable performance across various regions, including Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and the Steppe of Ukraine.
This sunflower is characterized by rapid moisture loss in the head during ripening, which allows for faster harvest and reduced losses. The optimal sowing period is May, with a recommended planting density of 55,000–65,000 plants per hectare. Plant height reaches 160–175 cm, and oil content in seeds varies from 47 to 50%, making the hybrid attractive for oil production. Moreover, Starobil'skyi exhibits high drought and stress resistance, confirmed by resistance ratings of 8–9 points.
The hybrid successfully grows in various regions of Ukraine, including Lugansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia, where it achieves yields of up to 5.5 tons per hectare under favorable conditions. It is also resistant to diseases such as white rot and frogeye, further enhancing its agronomic value. Starobil'skyi is suitable for 'Clearfield' technology, ensuring effective weed control and contributing to high-quality yields.
